Government of India, Ministry of Human Resource
Development (MHRD), Department of Secondary and Higher Education has sought
nominations for Award of Certificate of Honour to Scholars of Sanskrit,
Tamil, Pali/Prakrit, Arabic and Persian languages.
2. These awards are conferred every year on the eve of
Independence Day in recognition of outstanding contributions of various
scholars of eminence of over 60 years of age in the above fields, who are
proficient in the respective language and the respective fields of
specialization. This scheme envisaged a monetary grant of Rs. 50,000 per
annum for life, apart from a Sanad and a Shawl, which is presented by the
President to each awardee. There are 15 awards for Sanskrit, 3 each for
Arabic and Persian and one for Pali/Prakrit under the scheme. Scholars of
Classical Tamil will also be honoured.
3. It has also been decided to grant one time monetary
grant of Rs. 5.00 lakh to the Scholars of Sanskrit from the year 2008
instead of Rs. 50,000 per annum earlier. However, there is no change in
the monetary grant for the awardees of Pali/Prakrit, Persian and Arabic and
also for those scholars of Sanskrit, who have been awarded in the earlier
years.
4. Nominations are therefore, invited for the
following:
4.1
Awards for Sanskrit
·
15 National Awards carrying on-time cash grant of
Rs. 5.00 lakh.
·
1 International Award for non-resident Indian or
persons of non-Indian origin carrying a one time cash grant of Rs. 5.00 lakh.
4.2
Awards for Classical Tamil
It has also been decided to introduce the following
Awards to the Scholars of Classical Tamil Language:

1 “Tholkappiar Award” for lifetime achievement
carrying a one time cash grant of Rs. 5.00 lakh.
·
2 “Kural Peetam International Awards” (one each for
non-resident Indians and persons of non-Indian origin) carrying a one time
cash grant of Rs. 5.00 lakh).
·
5 awards of young scholars of Classical Tamil in
the age group of 30-40 years with a one time cash grant of Rs. 1.00 lakh.
4.3
Awards for Pali/Prakrit, Arabic and Persian.
·
3 Awards for Arabic carrying a cash grant of Rs.
50,000/- per annum for life.
·
3 Awards for Persian carrying a cash grant of Rs.
50,000 per annum for life.
·
1 Award for Pali/Prakrit carrying a cash grant of
Rs. 50,000/- per annum for life.
4.4.
Maharshi Badrayah Vyas Samman
Maharshi Badryan Vyas Samman for young Scholars in
the age group of 30-40 years
in the field of Sanskrit, Pali/Prakrit, Arabic and
Persian.

5 Awards in Sanskrit carrying a one time cash grant
of Rs. 1.00 lakh.
·
1 Award for Pali/Prakrit carrying a one time cash
grant of Rs. 1.00 lakh.
·
1 Award for Arabic carrying a one time cash grant
of Rs. 1.00 lakh.
·
1 Award for Persian carrying a one time cash grant
of Rs. 1. lakh.
