General Information

The Consulate General  of India, Jeddah, was established in October 1985 consequent to the move of the Embassy of India to Riyadh.  It  functions  under the overall supervision and direction of the Ambassador of India to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.  Its consular jurisdiction extends to the western and southern provinces of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and encompasses the cities of Jeddah, Makkah, Madinah, Yanbu, Taif, Gizan, Najran and Abha.  It is estimated that approximately 700,000 Indian passport holders are residents within the consular jurisdiction.

The Consular Section of the Consulate provides a variety of services such as passport renewal, visa,  attestation, etc. for the benefit of Indian residents here.  Since the Indian community resident here also includes a large number of semi-skilled and un-skilled workers, the Community Welfare Section of the Consulate provides assistance to Indian labourers on several issues.

Jeddah has, for centuries, served as an entrepot for trade and commerce in the Arabian peninsula.  It continues to play a similar role today, even though economic activities have diversified in multi-faceted ways and the business environment in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has become increasingly demanding. The Commercial Section of the Consulate General of India aims to aid and assist Indian businessmen in formulating their business strategies targeted towards the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The Consulate is also the nodal agency of the Government of India for  arrangements of Haj pilgrims sponsored by the Central Haj Committee in India.  It has a full-fledged Haj Section which provides a variety of services to the pilgrims during the annual Haj.

The Consulate functions from Saturday to Wednesday from 0830 Hrs. to 1700 Hrs. with a 30-minute lunch-break between 1330 Hrs. to 1400 Hrs.  It also provides essential consular services on every Thursday between 1400 Hrs to 1700 Hrs.  In accordance with the guidelines of the Government of India, the Consulate observes various Indian Holidays.

The Consulate has a full time staff who are available to assist in any of the areas of activity that falls within its purview.  The officers can be contacted for any assistance.
